Why do I need a credit card to get a free app??

Where can I change that setting or remove my credit card I have years with this phone and I hadn't had any problems until recently I used it to purchase something thru and app and I don't know how to cancel this. I'm getting very frustrated I can't even update my apps

You need a valid payment method to make use of the iTunes and App Store services, including downloading of free

apps.

 

If your payment method is declined, or you have a billing issue with a previous purchase in the iTunes Store - Apple Sup…

 

If you have a pending payment, you'll need to change your payment method to one that can be charged and fulfill that balance.

 

If you can't choose None when you edit your Apple ID payment information - Apple Support

 

Once the balance has been covered, and the new Payment is verified, you can then remove your payment method and set it to none.
