Malwarebytes Upgrade Yes or No?
I've been using Malware bytes for a long time (since I saw it recommended in these community forums).
Recently they automatically installed their upgrade trial version which I'm now using until the trial period ends.
The problem for me is that it costs a lot of money! £29.99 ($39.99) per year!
As I'm just a 'home' user and it always seemed to do what it's supposed to do, is the upgrade worth it?
I'd appreciate views from anyone, thanks.

Malwarebytes for Mac 3.0 Premium version is a business version.
I think it would be wise to install Malwarebytes 3.0 as the signature updates of version 1.2.6 will be ended once.
If you want to use the free version then you do not have to take any action. After 14 days, the Malwarebytes 3 Premium trial version automatically returns to a manual scanner.
A wise macOS user does not need Malwarebytes 3 Premium, the Free version is enough.
Once the trial ends you still can use Malwarebytes without paying for it, you just go back to what you had before, and scan manually.
I was disappointed about this new direction though.
unless you visit very shady sites and download and install all dmg's from them and install all dmg's and install packets you get in mails from contacts without knowing what they are
then I would just settle for the free version, personally I also run bitdefender from osx app store every now and then
between them they never found anything serious
also use malwarebytes in windows 10 in bootcamp on the mac and it found a few adware things that it removed also us e ms virus protection in win10 and that has been enough there too
Thanks Eau Rouge.
I'll take your advice. Your disappointment I guess is that they're just now trying to get money out of us?

Thanks Rudegar.
I'll do as you suggest and let the free version take over when the trial ends.
I can't see what's better, from a security situation, with the upgrade apart from being a different design and maybe quicker to use, and the free version does the same thing? Surely, it's the ability of their staff to locate and block any malware that's the key to the security.

everybody want to get you to pay then on a subscription basis not just malware protection but everybody
traditionally osx and linux being unix based systems and these days microsoft too require special admin verification for most of the actions that malware need in order to do their dirty business. of cause given time their skill will advance but unless you are a special agent I would not worry too much unless you respond to all shady sites which tell you that you need to update your flash version and provide you an url to how you go about doing so
Thanks again.
You've told me what I suspected is the case. I'll stick with the free version.
There is no purpose in having it installed at all. Just don't install Adware and you don't need it at all, free or otherwise.
While it was once just an Adware removal tool, the company has coopted the good name of AdwareMedic and is now trying to sell useless Anti-virus crap as a subscription service with the good-will it has earned from the previous product.
O.K. and thanks Barney-15E.
I'll look into this.

My two cents. Malwarebytes 3.0 has just been released and it's too early to decide its value. If it is effective at predicting yet unknown malware without noticeably impacting the Macs behavior then I would say the cost would be reasonable. But that is yet to be shown.
Personally I have never had any adware or malware of any kind in 30+ years but not all users are savvy enough to avoid them.
Avoiding Mac malware is simple and costs nothing. Please read Effective defenses against malware and other threats.
