Calendars won’t sync from my phone to my Mac

This has been going on for years—yes, years—but I haven't had the energy to deal with it until now. Not sure why I get this error message when I click on the little warning triangle next to my iCloud account in the main Calendar window, or how to fix this. Then I click that helpful little Try Again button over and over because I'm good at obeying my computer overlords, but nothing happens. The overlords fail me. God is dead. Nietzsche, that crazy fool, was right.

 

Any suggestions?

...gives me the following error message. For years. I'm reasonably sure waiting is not the answer.
