Clean install latest macOS using recovery

Hi,

Let's say that I'm running on macOS Sierra right now, when macOS High Sierra is released to the public would it be possible to perform a clean install to High Sierra using Recovery mode without downloading High Sierra update once in Mac App Store?

We can not speculate but historically you will need to have whatever OS X you have installed on your recovery partition, which can be done by a clean install on a blank disk or partition (which requires install on the initial partition.)

Internet recovery will restore the iteration of OS X that shipped with your computer, but with the last update. So if your mac shipped with 10.12.2 you will get 10.12.6 through Internet Recovery, despite whatever the last update you had installed.

So I guess to perform a clean install of High Sierra, I have to download and update to High Sierra once and then after that perform a clean install?

Once High Sierra is released you can create a bootable installer on a flash drive, boot from it, then erase your internal drive then install.

if the next iteration of OS X follows the same procedure for a USB install as Dialabrain points out this is what historically is involved
