Pestering dialogue box

Been getting a pop-up dialogue box stating my iPad Air 2 (11.0.2) needs a passcode to be unlocked in order to work with iTunes (12.7.0.166).

"iTunes could not connect to the iPad “Doug's iPad” because it is locked with a passcode. You must enter your passcode on the iPad before it can be used with iTunes."

I have unlocked the iPad with fingerprint and also by entering my code. Both cases do not stop the dialogue box from returning. Pressing "Try Again", "Cancel" or "More Info" within the dialogue box usually causes the box to disappear but then later it reappears and you see I go in circles with it.

Also tried restoring the iPad via iTunes ("Restore Backup..." button). No change. Tried hard-wired via USB, press hold Home button get the image of the cable and iTunes on the iPad screen. iTunes did a download of the latest iOS then installed on the iPad. No change. I do see the iPad in the sidebar in the Device list. Can go to it to see info about it, etc. iPad works fine, has a nearly full (if not full) battery when making these attempts. The router is 6' away from the iPad and iMac that contains iTunes. iMac is hard-wired. I also logged into my account in iTunes and went under "Manage Devices" (iTunes in the Cloud), deleting the iPad and a few other devices from the list. Just looked at that list again and the iPad is listed with yesterdays date.

Any ideas? Wondering if there is a way to delete iTunes then reinstall or maybe a certain file needs to be updated to stop this message from appearing. Thanks for any input.
