Difficulty with scheduled shut down from intern...

I am on a Mac Book Air (mid 2013) Yosemite 10.10.5

While listening to internet radio on vTuner at night before sleep, I schedule a ‘shut down’.

Sometime it works, other times it acts like it is being put to sleep instead of shutting down,

when I come back and it asks for a password to enter rather than having to be powered on.

Can you help me understand why this might be happening when I am using the same setting

to ‘shut down’ at a scheduled time, with success sometime and sometimes not.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Check out this article:

About Energy Saver sleep and idle modes in Mac OS X - Apple Support

And also this article:Set a startup, wake, sleep, restart, or shutdown time on your Mac - Apple Support

Where it says 'to make sure that Mac shuts down even when sleeping, set it to start up or wake 5 minutes before the scheduled shut down time'.

I didn't realize even that the time can be set, to the minute and was using only the hour.

By the way, just noticed that this set a startup, wake........... 5 minutes before scheduled shut down has

a note on the panel that appears, that says it is only useable when on power adapter, not battery!

Finally on this search for a competent shut down, I have found it works perfectly well

when connected with the power cord (rather than on battery) and when at the scheduled

shut down, chose to 'wake up' 5 minutes before the shut down (as articles references

in this thread suggests, and which only is functional when the computer is plugged in.)

Lovely that it works so well this way.
