Airdrop Imac Late 2009

Hi,

I am trying to airdrop files from my iPhone 6s to my iMac late 2009 computer. I can see the iMac when trying to transfer files from my MacBook pro but i cannot see the iMac when trying to transfer from my iOS devices.

Is it possible to get this working without needing a low powered bluetooth usb dongle or not?

How would you suggest to get around this?

Beside using third party programs i.e. Dropbox.
