Which replacement battery for Macbook Air 2011 ...

I need to replace a battery for my Macbook Air 13" mid-2011, and I'm fairly savvy with electronics to do my own repairs.

I assume that Apple is very unlikely to allow any retailer to sell Apple's genuine battery for Air. What are alternatives which are equal to or better than the original batteries? What are their product IDs (or how can I identify it otherwise, especially if ordering online)?

By "equal or better" I mean that it lasts at least as many cycles. I.e. after equal number of charges, it keeps Macbook running roughly as long as the genuine battery on a single charge, given the equal load.

To the best of my knowledge, there is none.

Best.

The following quote is from : https://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/macbook-air/macbook-air-faq/macbook-air-ba ttery-replacement-instructions.html

However, although some third-party MacBook Air batteries now are floating around on the resale market, EveryMac.com has yet to locate one of high enough quality to recommend. It is clear that many third-party batteries are not of the same quality as the official ones, and EveryMac.com does not recommend replacing the battery yourself until batteries from a known quality company are available.

I also found that Apple charges $129 in the U.S. to replace the battery and the battery available from ifixit is $110 so there isn't much cost savings.

Take my word for it, never go with 3rd party batteris or power cords for a macbook.   The battaries are very tricky compaired to other computers, since they have some kind of controller chips in them and the after market ones are always a problem.  Same with power cords.  You will be waisting your money if you don't go OEM.

Repair services officially licensed by Apple charge about $205 for battery and replacement work (and the same amount for the genuine battery alone bought from them) in the region where I live (Moscow, Russia). Hence the question.

You mean -- if I don't buy genuine battery from a repair service officially licensed by Apple?

Im the first person to buy "offbrand" things, however ALL "offbrand" non-Apple batteries are TRASH

they don't last, often they're poorly constructed, they don't contain the microchip for SMC communication.

New Egg claims to have Genuine Apple batteries for macbook air at about $69.   The off brand ones are hit or miss.  I have seen some bulge up to the point that it pushed the bottom out and deform the laptop.  I would be wary of the off brands.

I needed a new battery and I found two issues for Macbook Air battery replacement.

First, Apple would not replace the battery in my 2010 Air.  They said it was too old and they did not stock parts.

Second, the Authorized Apple Service Store charged not $129 for the replacement but $229!

I went to Amazon, read reviews and bought an Egoway battery and it is pretty good although I have only had it in the computer for two months.  Hopefully it will last a while.

Pete

Hello Pete,

Greetings.

Looking for a battery for my Macbook Air (13 inch, mid 2011) model and came across the EgoWay battery pack on Amazon which you've also purchased. Eager to know how it's working out for you as of today.

A response would be much appreciated
Cheers.

Venkat

Venkat,

I'd rate this battery as very good so far.  I actually got one from OWC (I think the brand was Newertech) first and it is a company that I have bought things from before and they are very reliable.  That battery gave me about two hours of life.  I sent it back after a month or so and paid the $20 shipping charge to get rid of it.

The Egoway gives me much better battery life, several hours but I have not actually checked it.  All I know is that it does not need frequent charging and has worked well for several months.  Overall much better than the other one.

It is easy to replace, I bought a screwdriver set for about $15 but a screwdriver comes with the battery too.

Pete

Hello Pete,

Thank you for your prompt response.

Very helpful and much appreciated.

Best,

Venkat

Hi Pete,

I am in need to replace my battery, wondering if I should drop $140 (incl taxes) or so at Apple Store or buy an aftermarket battery?

Now that you have had the Egoway battery for around 8 months, how it's working out for you? How long is a full charge lasting now?  Please advise.

Anyone else who have had a good after market battery for more than 6 months or so, please advise.

Thanks
