Mac file server crashes router when transferrin...

Hello,

I had already posted this under the Mac mini section 3 days ago, which was left empty, and I have looked up many different articles on multiple sites and have had no luck. I'd be much appreciated if this could be solved, or at least get me one step closer to solving it.

I have recently set up a 2012 Mac mini (2.5 ghz i5, 500gb HDD, 16gb RAM) to use as a file server and time machine backups to use with a 2017 13" MacBook Pro (Baseline Touch Bar model) the Mac mini is connected to a BT home hub 5(a) using an ethernet cable, and the MBP is connected wirelessly.

My problem is that every time I try transfer big files the Router completely crashes and restarts, followed by an error message displayed by Mac OS saying something along the lines of Finder can't complete the operation because some data in *xyz.wav can't be read or written, (error code -36)Screen Shot 2017-09-30 at 11.31.56.png

I have already spoken to apple support, however the person I spoke to could not do much to help in terms of the router, however did help diagnose that the most likely problem is indeed the router and not the Mac's.

As well as speaking to apple, I have also called BT, of which they said that because the internet is working, it is not their problem (However it is also BT who supplied the router, I'm rather disappointed considering it's also their product)

If anyone could help with this, it would be much appreciated.

One simple test to help narrow down your troubleshooting of this issue is to temporarily create an ad-hoc wireless network with either your mini or your MacBook Pro. Whichever you use, then have the other device join this ad-how network. Now try transferring a "big" file between the two devices. If it still crashes you will know that your BT would NOT be the culprit.
