keyboard stopped working on MacBook Pro (15

Hi,

My keyboard has suddenly stopped working on my my MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2012).

Have tried starting in safe mode but that doesn't work (can't type to log in).

The track pad works fine, it's just the keyboard I'm having problems with.

I am using it now with an external (PC) keyboard and with this, I have even tried hitting the option key 5 times to see if this toggles it off / on but this also doesn't work.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?
