I want to delete iphoto from my MacBook Pro Ret...

In 2015 I bought a reconditioned MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014) and it came with iphoto. I've never used iphoto, I don't want it,  and it's taking up needed memory. Even though I've read it's ok to delete iPhoto and it has absolutely no effect on Photos, I want to be 100% certain before I delete it. That's my question. Thank you.
