PDFs disappear from iBooks on iPad

Recently, I installed video material on my iPad which brought it "0.01GB over capacity". I deleted one film to free some space. Soon thereafter, I received an "iTunes can't read the contents of my iPad" error in iTunes and I was unable to install any more videos/audio etc. on my iPad from iTunes. I reset all settings on the iPad, which did not solve the problem. Following an online hint, I deleted the files

/iTunes_Control/iTunes/iTunesControl

/iTunes_Control/iTunes/iTunesDB

on the iPad (both files had been of size 0 before deletion). Thereafter, iTunes started to see the iPad again, BUT all my PDFs in iBooks became invisible to both iTunes and iBooks. However, all the PDFs still exist in the /Books directory on the iPad, with cryptic four-letter filenames, and they still take up space, appearing in the Other storage category in iTunes. How do I get iBooks to see the PDFs again?

This is just a guess since I know almost squat about Apple and the ios, but if you are able to see the pdf files in the /books directory, could you not back them up to the computer, delete them from your ipad and then reinstall them via iTunes?

Saying that, you have probably already figured out the solution to your problem by now.

Good luck anyway.

If you cannot see the pdf's in iBooks how do you delete to free the space. This happened to me. I have 6.3gb of pdf's I books does not see after 10.3.3 update.
