How do I disable xfinity wifi?
I am not sure if apple can help me solve this, but I would appreciate anyone's input
Over the past couple of months, I have found that my macbook air mini and ipad automatically join xfinity wifi where ever it is available. I do not have an xfinity account, and cannot access this, so it just blocks me from proper internet usage. I keep on setting my default back to my home wifi (which works just fine, and has been for the past 2 years), but every time I turn on the computer, it just goes back to non-working xfinity. Frankly, I am getting quite tired of having to go through this process every time I turn on my computer. Does anyone know of any way to fix this?
Hi Firewell,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
If you have a wireless network that you no longer want to see or connect to then remove that network from the list of remembered networks.
iOS: Troubleshooting Wi-Fi networks and connections - Apple Support
5. Tap Settings > Wi-Fi and locate the Wi-Fi network to which you're connected.
6. Tap and Forget this Network.
OS X Mavericks: Choose preferred Wi-Fi networks
1. Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Network.
2. Choose Wi-Fi in the network connection services list, then click Advanced.
3. … Select a network and click Delete to remove it from the list.
Best regards,
Nubz
I'm not a customer of either Comcast or xFinity and had no clue how they were doing it, but the xfinity popup kept overriding my peferred provider for wi fi. I was having to manually deselect it and then choose my regular connection. So effing annoying -thanks for the tip.
Hi
Go to wifi when this comes up click forget this network .
Cheers

The Mavericks option worked for me on El Capitan. I simply deleted the wifi network, which was OK b/c my computer is connected by Ethernet.
THANK YOU
Stupid question maybe, but why do you have wifi turned on if you use ethernet?
That's not a stupid question. I didn't turn on wifi myself. Perhaps it's all part of the xfinity popup procedure.
Thank you for your assistance .... it didn't work for me.
The delete function wasn't working when i clicked on xfinity (after selecting advanced in Networks)
How can i get xfinity from popping up every time i'm on my desktop or laptop?
Thank you!
Michelle
I'm having the same issue. Every where I go where there is xInfinity WiFi it boots me off network that's active with each time I close my laptop. I've removed the Xinfinity from System preferences but it does not go away. I don't have xInfinity setup with a user name and password! I tried unchecking "Remember networks this computer has joined" but no improvement. This is super annoying . Did ATT hack Apples OS?
I know what the issues is. There is wireless network available from my router that I set up, at a later date I switched to ATT Internet, their cable modem comes with a wireless network inside. It's broadcasting and there may be a way to turn it off on the modem itself but it's not apparent. I'm only utilizing the modem function and I don't care for ATT's wireless connection or I've already setup a network on my router. The problem for Apple is there is some hierarchy that ATT has that act likes spam or advertising so every time I open my laptop it switches over to Xinfinity. Help.

I have this problem too and it's driving me nuts. The deal is comcast, by default, turns all comcast customers into public wifi hotspots and you have to manually opt-out of this. I am a comcast customer and I have opted out. However, there are enough hot spots in my neighborhood that this wretched Xfinity still overrides my own signal - which I know is both stronger and faster.
To be totally honest and paranoid - I think Apple and other manufacturers have some kind of underhanded deal with comcast that is causing this to happen. What else would be causing this?
I think you are paranoid, not honest. What would be the benefit of Apple doing this?
Well money of course! I know I'm paranoid, but still... why in the world would so many people report this darn thing taking over their signal?
There really aren't that many reports of this, the first one in this thread is a year and a half old. There are 6 people reporting the issue.
This is a Comcast/Xfinity issue and has nothing to do with Apple. And I seriously doubt Comcast could afford Apple's prices.
+1
I have been experiencing this issue for about a year. Going into the Network Settings > Advanced > WiFI > Preferred networks, and deleting the xfinity network doesn't help either.
I too have this problem. I read to delete this network, and remove it from the list, however that is not an option for me. I click on the minus, but xfinity will just not go away! I am quite sure there are more than 6 people with this problem, most have just not bothered to report the same problem. I can live with it, it is VERY annoying to have to keep switching back to my network!!
