How do i check imac not stolen?

I just seen a imac for sale on shpock going silly cheap

21inch 2012 8gb ram 2012

the seller says was his ex gf` and she left it at his house when she ran off with her new man 5 months ago

says all working ( photos shows it is )

but i get the feeling she may have a password on it for user or admin things and he dont know it as in one photo i saw her name in a box asking for password

is there a way to check this imac is not stolen?

Have it taken to an Apple store and they can check. In 99% or the cases, if a deal seems to good to be true then it is.

i agree, but why would i buy a unit and then take it to a store?

what if it is stolen? then i done my money!

If you don't trust the seller, don't buy it.

Choose another if you don’t trust this one. Either that or request the seller to meet you at an Apple store to have it checked out and verified. I expect they won’t want to.
