iPad Pro 2017 9.7 inch iOS 11 Video Edit Bug

My father owns the iPad detailed in the title and is having an extremely difficult time trimming videos in the photo app.  He can’t select the trim buttons, they are just not selectable.  Anyone else experiencing this?  Really hoping this is a global bug and not a single case issue.
