Help with VLC install

Hoping someone can help ....

Completely new to Mac OS having just migrated from a Windows 10 PC to a MacBook Pro 2017 running Mac OS Sierra 10.12.6.

Was looking to install VLC media player, successfully downloading the vlc-2.2.6 dmg file. After running the file, I ejected the resultant disk image from the list of mounted devices before dragging the VLC app over to the apps folder. So here's the question .... I thought I could remount the disc image from disc utilities but not showing there; nor is it in the trash can, so where does it go once unmounted? Should I just rerun the dmg file? Or is there a way of recalling the original disc image?
