Suspicious Update for Unknown App

I received an update this morning, on my iPad Air 2 (purchased new apprx. 2 1/2 years ago), for an app I don't have on either my iPad, my iPhone or any other device.

It's called "Black Cat and Calico Cat" and is for stickers for FB Messenger.

I'm not going to click on it until I get instructions from Apple. I'd like to get rid of the update.

Thanks.

A~

You see this in the Updates tab in the App Store?

Yes.

Then the app was definitely downloaded before, using your account. If you did not download it, then someone else may have access to your account; see: If you think your Apple ID has been compromised - Apple Support. Hopefully, that's not the case and you downloaded it and forgot.

Thanks for the super quick reply!

When I searched my 'purchased' apps, it shows up but says 'update' next to it. The actual app is not on any of my devices, tho. I have 2-step verification. I thought that was supposed to prevent someone from accessing my account? Unless that's something else. ??

One more thing...when I look at my phone's and mini ipad updates, that particular app isn't there. ? Does that mean anything?

Whoa....I just checked my mini and it DOES have the download cloud next to the app! But why is it asking for the update when I don't have it on any device?  So very sorry for the confusion. I'm confused myself!

Is it safe to click on update?

You're right, if you have two-step verification enabled then that should protect your account.

If it shows up in the purchase history then you must have downloaded it at some point in the past. If it's showing up as an update on your iPad Air 2 but not other devices, that means the app is currently installed on your iPad. You can swipe through your home screens, and delete it if you do not plan on using it: How to delete apps on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support.

If you can't find the app, try going to Settings > General > iPad Storage (called "Storage & iCloud Usage" prior to iOS 11), and wait for the information to load. Then scroll down, tap on the name of the app in question, and tap Delete App. In iOS 10 and earlier, you have to tap on the bar graph showing the storage breakdown (after it loads) to get to the list of installed apps.

It's safe to click, yes. You can update it if you like, or if you don't use it, it can be deleted per above.
