Migration assistant freezing

Have tried to use Migration assistant to transfer from my old iMAC to new one.  Twice it has frozen with 35 min. left after transferring data for nearly 4 hours.  Using latest OS.  Using ethernet!  Very frustrated.  Want to use new computer , which is why I spent so much on it!
