If a purchase was made Aug 9, why is my receipt...

I made a purchase August 9 and on my bank statements it says August 26, why is there a big gap between the date of purchase and when the purchase was charged? If a purchase is made it should be charged right then, not whenever it feels like charging people on their account.

"Deliverable" hardware products will likely be "charged" when the item actually "ships"
