Please, AppleGods: Will my Macbook Pro 13" (Mid...

Hi guys!

I tried reading many similar threads about this topic, but I found different answers and got confused.

Just got a brand new Macbook Pro 13" Mid 2012 (Model ID: "MacBookPro9,2") that comes with 4GB RAM. I would like to upgrade it to 16GB RAM (Corsair), but I am not sure if it will work since Apple says this model only supports up to 8GB.

What do you guys say? Has any one done this successfuly?

Also, some user here said RAM 1600 MHZ 1.5 V will not work, only 1.3 V. What do you guys say?

Thank you so very much!

Peter.

16gb ram is the max.

Hi shldr2thewheel! Thanks a lot for your reply!

So, I shouldn't worry about Apple saying "only up to 8GB"? Any thoughts about the 1.5V x 1.3V issue with the RAM?

Thanks a lot!

Peter.

Apple only says 8GB but 16GB is the max supported.

Apple tests the logic board with the most-reasonbly-priced RAM at the time of assembly, which was 2x4GB SODIMMs.

Others put their MBPs on the line testing with 16 GB after purchase.

Have you succsessfully upgraded to 16gb? ive got  a mid 2012 i5 2.5 GHz,  whats the highest i can go?

Also, would this fit?

You can upgrade to 16GB of RAM. If you want 8GB, the RAM you point to should work, but I don't see Corsair's "Mac Memory" label on it. Check with Crucial, Corsair, and OWC for 8-16GB upgrade paths.

Go to the Crucial site first and use the System Scanner tab to find out the upgrade paths available.

it says right on the apple website its only compatible upto 8gb here :https://support.apple.com/kb/SP649 thats not true?

Not true - just like all 2011 and 2012 MacBook Pros your model can handle up to 16GB - I've been running 16GB in my late 2011 15" MBP since about April, less than a month after I bought the machine.

Download the excellent MacTracker: you'll see that for your model it lists:

Maximum Memory16 GB (Actual) 8 GB (Apple)

Good luck,

sweet this is what i found!   not bad.

That's exactly what you need and Crucial RAM is the best. Oh, how the prices of RAM have fallen!

Good luck - you'll enjoy being able to have multiple memory-hungry apps open at once!

I did upgrade my Macbook Pro 13" Late 2011 to maximum of 16GB RAM Corsair Apple Memory and its successfully detected and its working now. But a word of advice, pls do make sure where you will purchase the memory and be sure to test is after installing. Right now my mac is running at 16GB of RAM, but i encounter a "Memory run out problem", i consulted this community for insights and they suggested that the memory is defective and arrange for a replacement. But its been 9days now since i install it and the problem showed up only once.

Ok forgive my ignorance, but I think one of the ram slots are a problem. System kept crashing, I have my daughter running as a test the one slot with nothing in the other ram slot to see if it will crash. So far so good so can you put 16 in one slot? or 8 would be the max? and leaving the other slot empty?

So you know she has a 2012 and Apple was saying it was Ram.
