how to stop mail auto save drafts

Hi, I have million auto saves of drafts in mac mail on Sierra, how do i stop this? its coming form my gmail account. most the forums speak about turning off"save to server" in setting. I don't have this setting! Please help!

As per the article : Mail for Mac: Mailbox Behaviors preferences in Mail

I am still on El Capitan and I don't have that drop down box and I am having the same problem, there are hundreds of partial emails that it saves and stores in drafts and I can't find any way to stop it.

All I have is a check box on Mailbox Behaviors that says to Store draft messages on the server, which I unchecked, so its storing them on the mac. Short of upgrading to sierra, how do I stop this?
