Why does my BDF plug

Why does my BDF plus-in quit (cease producing sound, although to all intents and purposes it still behaves as if it is working) when I try to use varispeed?

Actually, it's only on the 'speed only' setting that it quits. On the other two it's fine. But I don't want the other two...I want 'speed only'
