iPhone will not back up due to error message "i...

I have a 13in Macbook Pro w/ touch bar and it's updated to all the latest software. 

I have tried everything's i can think of, turning off my laptop and restarting it, closing itunes and restarting, unplugging my phone and restarting it as well. 

Any help would be great.

is the phone updated also? Usually, if one is updated and the other is not, it might cause a hiccup.....
