2016 MacBook Pro recording in stereo. USB audio...

On my older Mac, there was a separate 1/8" microphone jack that allowed recording stereo in GarageBand and Audacity.  There was also a USB audio CODEC that allowed 2 channels for input.

On the MacBook Pro (2016) there is no microphone input, so all audio must come through USB C.  I have a USB C docking station that has a microphone jack but the Mac only recognizes a single channel (converting stereo to mono).  Does anyone know if the CODEC can be modified or replaced to allow 2 channel input via USB C?
