New iTunes 12, not recognizing device?

I just updated to the new iTunes 12 but whenever I plug in my iPod touch 5 gen to my computer, it doesn't seem to pop up on iTunes. I'm assuming it's because it's not being recognized? When I still had the older version, my iPod did show up on iTunes but I can't seem to get it to show up on the new one. I know that on the new iTunes, the device should show up on the left side of the screen instead of the right side, but it doesn't show up. I've tried restarting the computer and my iPod but it doesn't help. I'd really like to get this thing working as soon as possible, thanks!

Okay

I got it working. You have to uninstall all three associated programs and then reinstall iTunes 12

This worked for me

HI ..

Disconnect the iPod.

Restart your computer.

Reconnect the iPod then launch iTunes

Click this icon iTunes iOS Device recognized icon.tiffunder the Play / back / forward icons top left side of the iTunes window.

You should see the iPod.

I've tried that and the problem is that that icon doesn't show up at all.

I had the same issue as you but when I updated to 12.0.1, the devices icon then showed up.

This also happened to me.  When your iPod does shows up in 12, it will show up in the menu bar at the top to the right of Music, Movies, etc.

What fixed the problem and got my iPod to show up is I renamed the Music | iTunes folder to iTunes_old.  When I then connected my iPod it remade the directory and I was able to import my stuff from the iTunes_old.

In other words there was something there in Music | iTunes that iTunes 12 didn't like and caused it to not recognize my iPod.

Maybe Apple software is a 'seamless' experience only when all your devices are Apple.

Same problem here.

I have a iPod Touch 4th Gen with Windows 8.1 64 bit and I've tried all the suggestions in this post with no luck. Maybe it's time to revert back to 11 till they sort it out.

Pitty though it looked really nice.

I was really hoping your suggestion worked, but unfortunately, iTunes still doesn't want to work with me. I may just have to wait out this problem to see if Apple is going to do some changes .___.

I actually did revert to 11 with no avail: I found that iTunes 11 doesn't recognize my device anymore either. So now I'm just stuck with two versions of iTunes that refuse to work.

I had the same problem but managed to solve it. Just reset (different then turning off and on) your ipod and it will show up afterwards.

I was actually going to resort to that if nothing worked. I'm worried if everything on my iPod will be deleted though, as I can't back things up to my iTunes since iTunes isn't recognizing my device .__.

Open iTunes and connect iPhone with USB.

Select "Sync this iPhone over Wi-Fi".

Scroll to bottom and select "Apply"

Eject iPhone.

Close iTunes.

When you restart iTunes it should recognize the iPhone wirelessly.

I can't get to the Sync button at all. Since the device isn't recognized at all on iTunes, when I click on the File --> Devices tab all the options beyond that are in a faded grey color, which I can't click on.

I am having the same issue with IPhone 6 Plus.

It is not recognizing it on my laptop.
