How do I transfer photos from my PC to my ipad

And what if that doesn't work?  I understand the syncing process but it just isn't working between my Sony laptop and my new iPad.  I can copy photos across by selecting them to share but can't get the process to happen automatically.

We shouldn't hijack this thread .... But do you have auto syncing enabled?

 

Launch iTunes, go to Edit>Preferences>Devices>Prevent iPods, iPhones and iPads from syncing automatically. If you have that box checked at the bottom, uncheck it to enable auto sync.

Sorry about the hijack.  Not with laptop at present but presume auto syncing is enabled as my music library has synced.  Will check it out and post my own question if need be.  Thanks.

Another way. You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.

 

Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).

 

Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

When the original response refers to clicking on the ipad name, and then devices etc,  is this on the PC or on the ipad. ?    I'd presumed on the ipad, but can't see the references on the iTunes page ?

 

This is my first ipad or Apple product , so everything is new..... bear with me !

You connect the iPad to the computer - and start iTunes on your PC - if it does not start on its own.  iTunes is set to open and sync automatically (which I personally hate and never use this way). So if the iPad syncs on its own - let the syncing process complete.

 

After the iPad syncs - click on the iPad name under the devices heading on the left side of the iTunes window and then proceed with the rest of the steps. You do this on the computer while the iPad is connected to the PC with the cable.

every time I sync photos, the new file replaces the old file. I want to enter several files, but itunes will not allow me to check "selected folders"........how do I add new folders without erasing the old?

I need to know the steps to get photo from my PC to my new Ipad.

I have backed up my ipad on the computer.... ( sync) but I want simple steps to get the photos back on the ipad.. Dont talk about Icloud. the photos are on my computer, not Icloud..

If the photos are stored on your computer see part way down this page for syncing them to your iPad  : Keep your photos safely stored and up to date on all of your devices - Apple Support

 

If they are only in a backup (e.g. they were in the Camera Roll album on the device that the backup is from) restore to that backup (which will remove all current content from the iPad) : Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup - Apple Support

Following those instructions, there is no Photos Tab anywhere in itunes that i can find.

Are you using iCloud Photo Library (not sure if it will show if you are) ? I'm not and I have a Photos tab under the Settings heading on my device :
