iTunes is eating my MP3s

Two weeks ago I pulled up one of my favorite albums on my iMac, and iTunes couldn't locate the Mp3s. I did a global search for them, as well as a manual search in the folder my iTunes are stored in. Nothing. The MP3 files seem to have evaporated. Fortunately I have a backup of all of my MP3s, so I restored them (along with about fifteen other albums that went missing). Enjoyed them for a few days. This morning I opened iTunes, went to the album, and (you guessed it) iTunes can't find the files. And the MP3s are erased from my Mac. Same for the other albums I had re-uploaded last week. The albums are still available (visibly), but the files are gone. Everything else in my iTunes is just fine.

I should add that I upgraded my iTunes last week (v12.6.1.27), thinking that the problem might go away.
