AirPlay issue between iPad 2 and Apple TV 3rd gen

Does anyone know why AirPlay is not available between the iPad 2 and Apple TV 3rd gen? Other Apple devices can use AirPlay with the Apple TV. This iPad 2 was using AirPlay a few weeks ago but now the AirPlay icon is no longer available in the Control Center. I have confirmed that;

1. All devices are on the same wireless network
2. All devices and router have been restarted.
3. All the software is up to date on the devices; iPad 2 iOS 9.3.5, Apple TV iOS 7.2.2
