received email saying something was wrong with ...

My son has my credit card on his iPhone 7. He received an email saying that the iCloud extra storage payment couldn't go through and needed to change the payment method. This was actually in his "settings" of his phone so I thought it was legit. But now I'm wondering. I don't ever remember him having extra storage space for his ".live" account.  I have no idea how to even check it to see if he ever did.
