Fan issues and Kernel task continues

Hi there, I got a iMac Late 2013 model, 8 GB RAM, 2.7 GHz Intel Core i5, Running Mac OS X 10.10.1. I have had issues in the past with this the Fan running for no reason on this computer. I read numerous articles about this on the web and most said to do a SMC reset and also that certain cables (USB) may cause this. I recently did and SMC, repaired permissions, ran daily/weekly/monthly scripts. Yesterday computer was fine, this morning the fan is going full blast and in activity monitor it says  Kernel_task 300+% CPU, CPU time 22:32:14:55. Anyone have any thoughts on this as to why this continues or what I am missing here. Really gets annoying to shut down, SMC restart then good for a day or so. Thanks in advance

What you install on  your computer is 100% up to you, however when you install unnecessary apps eventually you may pay the consequences. I suggest that you search CleanMyMac and on these forums and you will be rewarded with hundreds of replies where users have had similar issues as yours and when they remove the cleaning, antivirus, or other "performance enhancing" apps the machines performance returns to normal.

Best of luck.

Here is also what I got from EtreCheck if it helps

One major issue is you are treating your iMac like a MS Windows machine by installing useless and troublesome apps. OS X does not need cleaning, antivirus, or other performance enhancing apps like a Windows box does. The best thing you can do for OS X is to install the recommended Software Updates  in the Mac App Store.

Your machine has CleanMyMac2 installed which is the likely cause to your problems. It needs to be fully uninstalled and then run another report to see if it is completely gone.

Also use some common sense such as never download apps from torrent sites, do not fall for email phishing schemes, particularly ones that advise your machine is infected or that you must download something. Downloads should come from trusted sites, an unsolicited email is NOT a trusted site.

I Will give that a try and no offence but I doubt that'll fix it. I got cleanmymav on my 2011 MacBook pro and and older intel iMac, both running 10.10.1 I never had this issue with either of these computers and never had issues with this one until lately and I hsvent installed anything weird as of late.  Maybe onyx was the latest. In defence of some of these programs, they do serve a purpose tho. I like cleanmymac for the iPhoto cleanup (rotated pics etc) that take up unneeded space as well say the files for iOS updates that get stored.  Imo they do nothing special except doing the task you normal would do instead of fishing thro the finder to find these items and delete manualy. I will give it a shot tho. I could see if the kernel task happened while using or after using an aop like that but it's doing after a shut down smc restart and reboot with nothing opened.

So far so good, took both Onyx and CleanmyMac2 off. I guess the problem is gone and if I really get the urge to run these programs I could always install and delete after use but I will see. So far seems good. Thanks for the advice

That's good to hear. Just to verify both are gone, run another EtreCheck report and look. You don't need to post it unless the troubles persist.

back to troubles. All seemed good till I walked into my office later and the fan is going full place and activity monitor says 300+% CPU on kernel task again. The only thing different on this computer from my other two is the one use wireless apple keyboard and mouse, possible connection? Here is my EtreCheck

Only thing i see is a failed plist. One thing I did;t do was restart after I deleted those applications which I will do now including a SMC reset, Any thoughts or anything else I can provide please let me know

Hi, trying to keep this post open. Still having fan issues and high CPU Kernel Task going. Anymore idea's. I sure anoint finding much for options out there. Seems to be a past history with a lot of MacBooks not so much the iMac. Any thoughts on this or anything else I can find to help someone get better answers. I know an option is to take it to an apple store however I am no where near one as the nearest is 4 hrs away so if theres more trouble shooting i can do avoid that I'd prefer that, thanks in advance for any help

Hi, I got the same iMac and the same crazy fan problem. Even after complete reinstallation. I did this: https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/reset-macs-smc-pram/

And – unbelievable – silence! Looks like resetting PRAM helps. Forever I hope…
