How to close safari browser on iPad

I have an IPad Air and I phone 6 . How do you close the Safari browser ? I know how to clear data and webpages by going to Settings,Safari, clear history,. How do you close Safari after you are on a sight that you want all traces removed from devices. On my PC I can sign out of browser and also clear history.

Is there a switch that actually closes the browser or is it automatic as you open and close your device? I know about the settings to clear history and data. To stop or close a bowser is their a switch ?
