Apple Mail desktop popups

I use Apple mail on my Imac for gmail and icloud.  I get small, pop up preview panes upper right on my desktop every time a new email comes in. I'm not talking about a preview pane in mail itself, I'm referring to a desktop bubble that appears for a few seconds, then fades away. How can I defeat this feature?

This is a notifications, please go to System Preferences - Notifications and modify your settings.
