Ransomware on Sierra that puts do not enter sym...

Just read John Galk's post about ransomware but did not see what has happened to me. Perhaps you can help.

Some info- I'm using a late 2010 Mac Pro with Sierra (not High Sierra) installed on an SSD that has all my apps. I have another regular hard disk running El Capitan (from which I am posting this) with Apps and all my work files.

And I have an external drive that I used Super Duper on to copy my SSD disk.

Problem- Last night while running on the Sierra disk and using Safari I got a window popup that I had to call these guys to save my machine from malware. No way to quit or have access to other apps , I hit the power button, shut down and disconnected the ethernet cable.

Today I started up from the El Capitan Disk, wiped the SSD drive with Disk utility and restarted with restore. Connected my back up drive and restored with my last Time machine back up.

But it gives me my log in screen for the SSD but no mouse control. So I restarted from my El Capitan disk. Double click on the SSD drive to see the what's going on and all Sierra apps still have a pale "no not enter" circle/bar over them. The Super Duper clone has the same symbols on the Mac apps.

Decided to look at my back up disk and found that all back ups going back to Jan 3rd  2017 have the same symbol over the Mac applications!

If the Apps were infected back then why did it take so long for me not to have access to my apps. or did trying to restore somehow infect my older back ups?

Any ideas on how to fix this would be appreciated.

Thanks
