MacBook 2016 power connection problem

Recently, when I connect the power supply (USB-C charger) to my MacBook 2016, the charger is not always detected by the computer. I know the power supply works as I use it to charge my phone, and I know the USB-C port works as I can plug and unplug other USB-C devices without problem.

Does anyone know if this could be a software problem?

If it is a hardware problem, does anyone have a suggestion on what part may need replacing?

I'd like to already have a good idea of what to ask for when I go to the Genius Bar.
