applied recent update to itunes and now podcast...

I run iTunes on a toshiba laptop with Windows 7 (can't upgrade to 10 at the moment).  I applied the most recent update to iTunes and now my favorite podcasts will not refresh.  I tried unsubscribing and re-subscribing.  I subscribe to more than one podcast but refresh only two on a regular basis manually (don't use the overall 'Refresh' button).  It has also slowed down considerably.  I usually don't have problems with updates, or if there is a problem another update comes along pretty quickly to fix the bug.  Has anyone else had this problem?
