Unable to transfer files to external drive

I keep al my mp4 files on an external hard drive which is formatted to FAT32, I am aware that the max file size is 5GB and most are around 1.5gb unto 3.1gb and had no issue so far, but tried today to move some mp4 files from my mac to the external drive of around 2gb to 2.6gb and i get an error popup saying unable to transfer as the max file size has been reached for the format volume (or something to that effect) yet as i say had no issue before today.  its seemed to have transferred mp4's under 2gb but not the ones over that size...  One thing i did do is install High Sierra last night so unsure whether thats got anything to do it.  Is their anything i can try before putting it down to the new OS...?

The OS has nothing to do with it - it is your external's formatting limitations. Here are a couple of articles:

Personally, I only deal with Mac formats and have no need for Windows formatting, so I cannot help in more detail.
