Disappearing Photos?
Ok, so I'm freaking out a little bit. From the looks of it, hundreds (if not thousands) of photos from my iCloud Photo Library appear to be gone. They have disappeared from my library, and they are not in the "Recently Deleted" album on my phone. I don't know for sure, but I suspect the Google Photos iOS app is to blame. Allow me to try and explain the situation fully, and hopefully someone will have some suggestions.
I previously used the Google Photos app as well as iCloud Photo Library to backup my entire photo library. Occasionally there was a feature from Google Photos that I used, and I also figured it couldn't hurt to have multiple backups. Once the iOS 11 beta dropped over the summer however, Google Photos didn't seem to play nice with the new photo format, so I deleted the app for the time being. After the official release of iOS 11, Google Photos updated their app to support the new format. I figured I would reinstall the app. Before doing so, I decided to clear out my Google Photos library and start fresh. I wasn't sure what had gotten messed up when it was trying to sync with the beta, so I deleted all the pics from my Google Photos album before reinstalling the app on my phone. I know the Google Photos app has the ability to delete photos from my phone, but keep in mind I deleted all the pics BEFORE reinstalling the app on my phone. My intention was to start with an empty Google Photos library and have it do a complete backup of my iCloud Photos Library from scratch. At first I thought this was working, but I noticed today that it said the backup was complete. This took MUCH less time than I expected, so I started to dig around. That's when I noticed photos missing. I'd say 95% of the pictures I took over the last couple of years are gone. I have albums on my iPhone that used to have hundreds of pics, but are now empty. I have Shared Albums on my phone from the past few years that are still in the Shared Albums tab, but the original pictures aren't in my Collections or "All Photos" section. The even scarier part is they aren't in my Recently Deleted folder on my phone, OR the Trash section of my Google Photos Library. I'm at a loss of what to do.
The only thing I can think of, is there was some glitch/lag when I deleted all my photos from my Google Photos Library and then started fresh. I'm wondering if somehow I didn't wait long enough after deleting everything to reinstall the app, and Google Photos saw I had recently deleted some photos and decided to remove them from my phone as well. If this is the case, is there anything I can do? I'll be pretty heart broken if all those photos are gone forever.
Sorry for the long post, I tried to break it up as much as possible to keep it from being confusing.
