system preferences blank when opened from apple...

MacPro5,1, OS X 10.12.6. When opened from the Apple menu, the system preferences window is completely blank. But when opened from the Applications folder or dock, it appears normal. The only threads I could find on this were very old. Not sure how to go about fixing this. I did create a new user and the problem does not occur when logged in as the new user. I deleted com.apple.finder.plist, that did not fix it.

Try this:

Quit System Preferences.

Go to ~/Library/Preferences and delete these files/folders:

com.apple.systempreferences .plist

com.apple.desktop.plist

Then go to ByHost folder and delete:

com.apple.systempreferences.xxx.plist (all of them)

Then go to ~/Library/Caches and delete:

com.apple.systempreferences

Then restart or log out and back in again.
