Changed apple id email, icloud on mac problems

I recently changed my apple ID email address after logging into appleid.apple.com My iphone and ipad are currently working fine and have the new email address as my apple ID.

The problem is that my icloud on my computer still shows my old email address, will not let me access icloud account details, and continuously keeps asking me to sign in. I have tried signing in with my a new password and will not work.

You need to sign out of the old ID first.

I can't sign out of the old ID because I no longer remember the password.

My App Store has the right ID.  Only the cloud on my iPad (in my case) is

being stubborn.
