Transfer bookmarks to iPad

I have streamlined my iMac bookmarks and erased a lot of obsolete ones.  I now want to copy the streamlined set to my iPad which still has all the dud ones.  When I use iCloud, it copies all the dud bookmarks back onto my iMac.  Is there a way to erase what's on the iPad and just copy what's still on the iMac?

The iMac is running OS 10.9.5 and the iPad is running iOS 9.3.5
