Ciao.

You installed a fake "utility" called "Advanced Mac Cleaner." Like any software that purports to automatically "clean up" or "speed up" a Mac, it's a scam. To remove it, take the steps below. Some of the files listed may be absent. Back up all data before proceeding.

If you paid for the software with a credit card, consider reporting the charge to the bank as fraudulent.

Step 1

Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:

~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.pcv.hlpramc.plist

Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select

Services Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)

from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item selected. Move the selected item to the Trash. Log out or restart the computer.

*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select

          Go Go to Folder...

from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You may not see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

Step 2

Move the following item to the Trash as in Step 1:

/Library/Application Support/amc

This time you may be prompted for your administrator login password. There's no need to log out after taking this step.

Step 3

Move this item to the Trash:

~/Library/AdvancedMacCleaner

Step 4

Open the Applications folder and move an item named "Advanced Mac Cleaner" (if it's present) to the Trash. Empty the Trash.

Linc, I've done the above - the first step worked and its in the trash but the second won't work, please help!!!

thanks

The best answer is the one I just got by calling Apple help. I tried many "solutions" here and they failed. Apple told me to download (sorry but yes) the free software malwarebytes, which I did, and ran a scan that worked the first time around. Total time: 10 minutes. When you go to the malwarebytes website you might think it's a scam because it looks like a teenager designed it with the comic-book robot on the home page. But it's real and it worksScreen Shot 2017-02-04 at 13.00.40.png

Based on some of the other replies, I've found an alternate solution that has worked for me on my MacBook Air:

  1. Go to Spotlight Search (The little magnifying glass thingy in the menu bar, top right corner), and type in "Advanced Mac Cleaner".
  2. In the top hits, it should show up along with a circular icon with a paintbrush; click and hold, then drag it to the side.
  3. When the file shows up against your screensaver, drag it to Trash. Open Trash and empty it.
  4. If a website pops up that says, "Uninstallation Successful", and is from the Advanced Mac Cleaner company, or anything of such, just quit the browser.

This is what worked for me when I tried to uninstall the application. I hope that this helps; I'm sorry if it didn't.
