iPad locked self

I was using my iPad on a Hotel WiFi system, which I have done many times, it suddenly rebooted and displayed activation lock and I cannot get it reactivated. The real mystery is my wife was using her iPad and the same thing happened a few moments later and I cannot reactivate that iPad either. Help!

Hi. There's been a rash of iPad 2 re-activation problems the past weekend. Supposedly, it's been resolved by now. What happens when you try to activate? Is there a problem connecting to the WiFi because it's a captive network?
