problem transferring data to new mac from old

I am using migration assistant to transfer data from my old mac to new macbook pro--when it completes it asks if I want to replace or keep both--if I choose to keep both users then it says to give new name?  the form states NEW NAME and USER ACCOUNT NAME--not sure what to do.  I have tried both selections and when I go to unlock it asks for password--no password I try will work--help
