problem transferring jpeg items from imac to sd...

I am transferring jpegs - originally on 32gb card - to a new 64gb card. I am copying from file on iMac and pasting to new card. The card being in card reader. However when I try to open them I get response " file could not be opened. It may be damaged or use a file format that Preview doesn't recognise". If I try the sd card in my phone the files do not exist.

Any help please

How is the card formatted? If you don't know select the card in Finder and type Command + I and it will let you know the format type.

It's formatted as Ex-Fat but being a rookie I don't know if that's right or wrong!!
