iPad Photos and iCloud

I want to set up Photos on my ipad so when I take a picture it automtically uploads it to icloud so my other devices (desktop mac mainly) can access it. I don't want it going the other way - photos on the icloud being downloaded to the ipad.

 

If i toggle on the icloud switch I find 4 gigs of photos are being pulled down into my ipad (or optimized versions).
I don't want any of them on my ipad. Just want it to go one way. That make sense?
