My mouse froze and keyboard not recognized on r...

I have a macbook air. Was using the computer and mouse froze. Restarted by holding down power button.  On restart, mouse frozenon upper left of screen and keyboard not recognized

Resetting the SMC does not slve the problem.

Zapping the NVRAM does not solve the problem either.

Although, since the computer is not recognizing the keyboard, I cannot be sure that it is even recognizing the startup keyboard presses.

i have a MacBook Pro 15" from Nov 2016.

when I power up, the cursor is in the upper left corner, and nether the keyboard nor the trackpad are recognized.

afer a few sconds a Bluetooth Setup Assistant dialog box pops up and "looks for a wireless keyboard."

So I can connect an external keyboard and trackpad, but can't get the Mac to recognize its own.
