Cracked screen MacBook Pro with Touch Bar

Devastated to say that my relatively new MacBook Pro with Touch Bar has a cracked display/LCD at the bottom on the screen.  I'm not particularly rough with my MacBook and presumably this occurred due to closing the screen with something between the keys and the screen. I recall the moment the crack appeared, so this would have been a dust speck.  Although I have AppleCare, the cost of repair is $680, since this is "accidental damage" and "out of warranty"

The new machine seems much more fragile than my older MacBook Pro's which are still going strong 5 years in!

Have others had problems with a fragile displays?

Sorry to hear of your broken display. It does seem reasonable and expected that if you close the display with something between the keyboard and the display that the display would break. And as you discovered, accidental damage is not covered by warranty.

Thanks.  It would have been nice, however, had there been something noticeable between the display and the keyboard.  No such event, to my recall, occurred.   That diagnosis was based on the injury to the machine.  (I've read of others who had their charger, or a pen, or whatever between - nothing like that here.)

I have never heard of a display spontaneously breaking. I suspect that something accidentally caused it to break. Once again, I'm sorry to hear that you have this problem. Maybe take it to an Apple store for assessment for possible cause of the breakage. If they determine the damage was cause by faulty material the repair will likely be covered by warranty. There is nothing we users can do about the damage or the warranty coverage.

I have the same issue with my 2016 Macbook Pro Touch bar, I was cleaning it as I have done with my other macbooks since 2008 with the recommended iKlear kit and soft microfibre cloth.

applying next to 0 pressure as the smudges didnt even come off!!

and it cracked see pic..

This is a common issue and you should be able to return
