For no apparent reason, while watching a Netfli...

For no apparent reason, while watching a Netflix show, my iPad abruptly stopped and then instructed me to activate the iPad.  Activation server down is now the response. I cannot enter any application (i.e. ITunes) to fix. Please advise.
