iTunes starts by itself and plays music
Hey,
I use the latest iTunes version on my mac with El Capitan. Since one day iTunes starts by itself and plays music, but I have changed nothing in the last days which could cause the problem. I found the following entries in the console that came up every time when iTunes starts:
iTunes[733]: ApplePushService: APSConnection being used without a delegate queue
com.apple.usbmuxd[716]: LOCKDOWN_V2_BONJOUR_SERVICE_NAME is _apple-mobdev2._tcp,914807f8
I searched through many communities but the solutions offered there (e.g. remove iTunes Helper from startup or disconnecting devices from the mac) does not help.
I hope you can help me.
Thanks for your awnsers!
If the Mac has an IR sensor, it may be picking up stray infrared signals from a remote control (like the one used with TV). This happened to me with the Apple TV remote control, when I pressed Play on the remote; my Mac mini would suddenly start playing music.
To disable the IR sensor in the Mac (assuming it has one), go to System Preferences Privacy & Security pane General tab. Click Advanced button. Checkmark box for Disable remote control infrared receiver, then OK.
If that's not the problem, please post back with any additional details. For example, when does this happen? When you start up the Mac, or while you are already using the Mac. Is iTunes already running when this happens?
Thanks for your awnser.
My mac has no IR sensor. The last times when iTunes started I watched a YouTube video but it also happens when I edit documents or hear music with Spotify (When Spotify is running and I press F8 iTunes opens but when I hear music with Spotify pressing F8 does not open iTunes, so the problem does not come from there). The problem comes up when iTunes is not running.
I hope that helps.
Do you have Bluetooth speakers that you use with the Mac? Are there any Apple devices (iPod, iPhone, iPad) connected to the Mac?
When iTunes starts by itself and plays music, what song is playing? It is a randomly selected song that is already in your iTunes library, the same song each time this happens, a song that you don't recognize...? What do you see in the iTunes window, after it unexpectedly launches in this way?
If it continues to be a mystery... You can do the following test to help narrow down the cause. Create a "Test User" account, in System Preferences Users & Groups pane. It can be a Standard (not Administrator) user account. Log out and log in to the new user account (do not use Fast User Switching). This user account has its own user-level settings, and background processes that start automatically at login.
Do the same things that cause this problem to occur, in the new user account. Does the iTunes issue still occur? If it does not, the cause is likely to be something related to your usual user account. If it does recur in the fresh user account, the cause is likely to be at the system level or hardware-related. Either way, you can better focus your trouble-shooting, instead of trying "random stuff."
On a separate note, does anyone else know your OS X user account name and password? This is for the admin user account on your Mac. Maybe someone is "pranking" you by using Screen Sharing to control your Mac remotely? You can turn OFF Screen Sharing, if it's currently enabled in System Preference Sharing pane, and change your admin user account password, to see if the iTunes issue stops happening.
I do not know why, but the iTunes problem is away. Thank you so much for your commitment, I am so sorry but is has stopped that iTunes opens. Thanks so much for your help!!
Why can't I be so lucky. This thing with iTunes has been haunting me for ages and it's making me crazy! Everytime my Mac wakes up or turns on, iTunes just launches itself and sometimes it picks a song and just starts playing it. I have been so embarrassed by this App I've tried everything to get rid of it I don't even want it, but it won't let me uninstall it either. Please someone help me I've spent SO MUCH time on this trying to figure out what will make it stop.

.
This is a pretty old problem, dating at least back to 2010, I am surprised you didn't get a quick answer, or that newer versions of itunes have not addressed this... it is the speaker jack and or your speaker connector... unplug them and see if it stops. there should be an option in iTunes to disable it but, like all mac "logic", there is NOT.
My iTunes has been doing this to me for years, on multiple computers I've owned, both at home and at work, and to everyone I personally know (that I have been able to ask about it). So it is certainly a flaw with the app itself. Beginning about 3 years ago, I resorted to completely uninstalling iTunes, and reinstalling whenever I want to make a backup for my iphone or dump photos, then I re-uninstall. Every once in a while after a few months, I'll leave the iTunes app installed on my computer, and be sure the current updates are applied, but the problem happens again within the hour that I trusted itunes enough to remain on my computer. Apple still doesn't seem to care very much abut fixing the app, so this is how I have worked around it for years unfortunately.
