Slow performance due to high cpu usage by the s...

I am facing issues with Constant high CPU usage by the system (ranges between 68-80%). Activity monitor says that kernel_task is hogging the max CPU (mostly greater then 200%). This has rendered my mac unusable

Steps tried so far

1. Deleted temp and cache

2. Uninstalled flash

3. Created a new admin user account (The issue continued with the new account as well)

4. deleted mediaanalysisd.plist file - by doing this the issue resolved for few hours and then the issue resurfaced.

Please find below the entrechek result:

4GB RAM on any Mac OS past 10.6.8 can be a problem, unfortunately the MBA can not have RAM upgraded after the time of purchase and some are limited to 4GB RAM.

However you need to remove CleanMyMac; that is software that causes major problems and does nothing else. Avoid software that claims to Clean, Keep, Protect your Mac, all of which has been found to cause problems.

  1. Open CleanMyMac
  2. Proceed to the Uninstaller module.
  3. Find CleanMyMac  in the list of apps found by the module.
  4. Click Complete Removal in the Smart Selector panel to mark the application file and all it related items for removal.
  5. Click Uninstall.

the shut down

reset the smc

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295

repeat two or three times

reboot into safe mode

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262

then reboot normally.

you also do not need the junk ware that came with your drive. If you have an external dirve formatted as NTFS for Windows you are using 3rd party software to allow you to write to the drive - and if you only need to read it you don't need it, and if you are not using that same drive for Windows you are only giving restrictions to the mac when trying to use it.

If you only need to use an NTFS formatted external drive with Mac

Back up the drive

reformat as Mac Extended (journaled) with Disk Utility

https://support.apple.com/kb/PH22241?locale=en_US

or as ExFat to use on both Mac and Windows (or Fat32) - both these formats have other restrictions on Mac but writing and deleting is not one of them
